Peru: Huchuy Qosqo

What’s better than hiking with an awesome local guide? Hiking with an awesome local guide who has a sweet pupper!

Shandira brought her puppy, Wayra (“wind” in Quechua), along for a quick hike to Huchuy Qosqo (“Little Cusco”). Usually done as an overnight trek, we day hiked from Chinchero to Lamay on an ancient Inca trail and viewed the ruins along the route. Wayra led the way with boundless energy and infectious enthusiasm.

There are beautiful views of hillside terraces dating back hundreds of years and incredibly precise masonry work. The Incas built these walls and structures with interlocking stones so tightly fitted that there is no mortar between them.

Also, there were llamas and a pony.
