Outside Ed is an aspiring writer and an outdoors instructor. He is a professional at being above-average at everything and being a really good at nothing. He enjoys hiking, backpacking, climbing, skiing, kayaking, and sleeping in on days off.
He has walked slowly to the top of Mt. Whitney four times, painfully hobbled through the Mark Fulton 8000m Challenge four times, thru-hiked a number of long-distance trails including the Tahoe Rim Trail, the High Sierra Trail, and Lost Coast Trails, froze during multi-day ski tours in Yosemite NP and Crater Lake NP, and managed to climb that really hard V4 in his local climbing gym.
Beyond his outdoor pursuits, he enjoys reading literature, philosophy, literary philosophy, and listening to Lady Gaga. He has been known to occasionally enjoy German doppelbock beers while watching soccer and yelling at the tv. He believes that puppies are the best thing ever and that all dogs are puppies. Someday, he will finally finish that novel he has been working on for the last five years.
Outside Ed lives and works in Orange County, CA. He teaches climbing, kayaking, cycling, mountaineering, and backcountry survival skills.
